Garner is a progressive and growing community of 3,000 in North-Central Iowa, about 20 miles west of Mason City.  Garner is known for its excellent housing, large industrial base, active downtown and amenities such as a new aquatic center.  In 2008, construction will begin on a 22,000 square foot community recreation center.  Thanks for visiting!



Garner Community Update
The City of Garner publishes the Garner Community Update each spring and fall.  A copy is mailed to each household in town.  The most recent issue is April 2008.

Veterans Memorial Recreation Center
Garner is working to construct a new community recreation center, which will replace the Memorial Building.   The proposed facility will be approximately 22,000 square feet and contain a large gymnasium, elevated indoor walking track, multipurpose room, fitness/weights area, and space for area veterans groups.  The architect has provided renderings of the facility.

2008 Sidewalk Program
The City of Garner will be undertaking the third year of a city-wide sidewalk repair and construction initiative this year.  About 65 notices have been sent.  We have provided several related documents. Read more...

Automatic Water Meter Reading (AMR) Project
Starting in January, all water customers will have their water meter replaced by Northern Water Works, a contractor working for the City.  There is no additional charge for this service.

The new meters will greatly increase the efficiency of meter reading, the accuracy of the readings and diagnose malfunctioning meters.

We have provided a brochure describing all of the major features of the new water meters.
